Sisal

Sisal is a kind of leaf fiber extracted from a kind of Agave plant, and originates from Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Its formal name: Agave Sisalana Perrine; English name: Sisal; alias: Sisalana. The leaf of sisal shows sword shape, hard and narrow, the length of lamina is commonly 100-140cm, width 13-15cm,and celadon to cyan. The sisal is characterized with thermophily and drought resistance, and suitable to be planted in tropical and semitropical regions.

Sisal is the perennial leaf fiber crop, and also a kind of hard fiber with the largest amount of consumption and widest use in the world at present. Because the hard fiber is characterized by easy woven, pure white color, tough texture, acid & alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, tough texture (strong tension), rich elasticity, seawater intrusion resistance, friction resistance, non-friableness, small gelatine, non-skidding, etc, it can’t be substituted by ramie, jute or other bast fibers.

Unlike the traditional wool or synthetic carpets, the sisal carpet is a new type of carpet that is made of natural materials and has been produced in the past 20 to 30 years. Although the natural sisal carpet emerged in Europe since 80’s of last century, it still is very popular around the world due to its unique texture, excellent characteristics as well as meeting the trend of nature and environmental protection pursued by many people nowadays.
